PlayCore Promotes Healthy Play with Statewide Training

PlayCore, a leading designer, manufacturer, and marketer of a broad range of play and recreation products and its GameTime brand were proud to join together with the California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS) to promote healthy play through a statewide training and grant initiative.

To further the CPRS Health & Wellness project, and promote CPRS’s Brand Promise, the initiative was designed to provide statewide professional development services and matching action grant funding to assist parks throughout the CPRS Regions in creating playground spaces that encourage best practice designs for active behavior.

Together with GameTime’s exclusive representatives, Marturano Recreation (MRC) and Great Western Park and Playground, the new park spaces will serve as National Demonstration Sites for data collection and will contribute data toward the publication of a White Paper to highlight best practices and outcomes achieved. NDS locations promote advocacy at the community and state levels and promote best practices across a number of health and active behavior initiatives. The initial findings will be presented at the California Recreation and Park Society Conference & Expo, on Thursday, March 12 at 11am. The winners will also be recognized in a variety of ways at the event.

To begin the initiative, park representatives attended professional development sessions, earning Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) and learning about the latest play research developed by PlayCore and its network of partners, scholars, and Universities. To apply, the representatives submitted creative essays demonstrating how their play project would contribute to the health and wellness of the community. Entrants were rated on a variety of criteria, and winners notified in late 2015 include:

Hilltop Park- El Segundo, CA
Vintage Reserve Park- Murrieta, CA
Cameron Park- West Covina, CA
Rynerson Park- Lakewood, CA
Spring Valley Park- Spring Valley, CA
