SUMMARY:

This position involves building complex scenic elements for themed environments from a variety of materials. As a part of the process, it will require sculpting 3D elements from EPS Foam.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Sculpting of props and characters using EPS foam and other sculpting materials.
  2. Collaborate with Production Manager regarding design, engineering, and construction of all scenic elements prior to commencement.
  3. Researching of items before sculpting via computer research and/or mock-ups and reference material provided by Art Director and/or Production Supervisor
  4. Get approval of design and build progress from Production Manager.
  5. Creative skills
  6. Structural and façade fabrication skills
  7. Ability to cut materials using hand saw, table saw, band saw, chop saw, etc.
  8. Assist with gathering tools and supplies for onsite client visits/installations.
  9. Maintain organization and cleanliness of personal worktable.
  10. Direct shop helpers as needed.
  11. Maintain accurate Workflow Sheets.
  12. Go in installations when required.
  13. Assist others in shop as needed.
  14. Assist with loading trucks for shipping.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Most of the duties are varied and regularly require analysis, comprehension, or limited judgment and discretion. Some of the duties may not conform to standard practices requiring the use of the analysis and interpretation to resolve problems.
  • Requires the use of mathematical skills about 1/3 of the time.

  • Requires an intermediate level of reading and writing.

  • Lifting/carrying is required when the employee is moving equipment and/or scenic elements. Force pounds are estimated to be up to 100#. Lifting ground to waist height, waist to chest height, overhead height. Carrying 10-15 feet.
  • This position has regular verbal and written contact with administrative personnel, middle, and senior management. The nature of these communications range from a routine exchange of information to a process of securing information and/or responding to inquiries where explanation and discussion may be required using judgment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of related carpentry experience.
  • The position requires good, basic verbal and written communication skills (in English), good common sense; positive attitude; willingness to take initiative; and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work accurately and quickly under company deadlines.
  • Ability to operate sculpting/carving tools and related equipment.

EQUIPMENT, MACHINES, TOOLS USED:

  • Computer, computer software, scanner, printer, telephone, copier, calculator. Hand truck, Forklift, Band Saws, Table Saws, Sanders, Hammers, Nail Guns, Staple Guns, Drills, Screw Drivers, Routers and Levels. Hot Knives, Hot knife cutting table. May use other equipment as required for the position.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Environmental Exposure:

  • Inside: 98% Outside: 2% Temperature: Non-airconditioned warehouse
  • Work is performed primarily indoors unless employee is required to go out of the building on errands or for truck loading. Employee will be in contact with chemicals and materials normally found in sculpt shop and scenic construction warehouses. Employee will also be exposed to noise and vibration.

Vision and Hearing:

  • Must be able to clearly see with or without corrected vision. Must be able to judge or distinguish distance and space relationships.
  • Must be able to hear within a normal range with or without a hearing device.
