The company’s initial award designation for best practice in outdoor fitness space design has led to over 30 sites across the US receiving recognition for promoting outdoor fitness across the areas of a well rounded workout: aerobic fitness, muscle fitness, core fitness, and balance/flexibility development.
“We created the National Demonstration Site Award program to recognize best practice design in outdoor fitness parks with an advisory board of scholars and experts,” said Anne-Marie Spencer, PlayCore’s Corporate VP of Marketing. “We were amazed at how many outdoor fitness areas were being installed with no thought to providing a good workout. In outdoor spaces, where the amount of equipment is generally limited, it becomes more important than ever. A space with six pieces of equipment, where all work the upper body, does not serve the community well.”
National Demonstration Site Designation is now available in four new categories: for inclusive play spaces, for spaces that combine nature with the built environment to help children and families reach highest use, for nature/play trails, and for promoting youth fitness through research-based programming. National Demonstration Sites receive certification, become part of a national registry, and are promoted actively to other communities wishing to offer appropriate environments to promote outdoor immersion. “We know the evidence-based benefits that align programs and spaces through our research with universities, scholars, and experts in these disciplines, and are excited to be able to bring the research to interested communities, and then recognize them for their effort,” Spencer added.
