PlayCore Awards Fitness National Demonstration Site Award to Clovis Old Town Trail Outdoor Fitness Park

PlayCore, the leading company in play and recreation research, programming, and products, recently awarded its Fitness National Demonstration Site Award to a brand new outdoor fitness park in Clovis, CA. The Mayor of Clovis and a representative from Kaiser, along with MRC Recreation (A GameTime distributor), are proud to announce the grand opening of Clovis Old Town Trail Fitness Park. The grand opening ceremony took place on Tuesday, September, 8th, at 9:30 a.m., and the fitness area is enjoying use by the community daily.

“I cannot emphasize the importance of living [in] a healthy way and exercising, being there for your kids and grandkids. There is nothing more important than that,” says Mayor Nathan Magsig. “We have provided opportunities [for the community] with the trail system. Kaiser [Permanente] has now provided opportunities for fitness and well-being by giving us this $40,000 donation, and GameTime of course working alongside us to provide the equipment and making this a National Demonstration Site Project. It’s extremely exciting.”

The site features a trail of equipment and offers elements to encourage the four elements of a well-rounded workout: cardio, muscle, core, and balance/flexibility, and includes adaptive equipment for people who use mobility devices.

“We were extremely impressed with the forethought that went into the creation of this site, specifically around providing opportunities to promote the four areas of a well-rounded workout.” said Anne-Marie Spencer, PlayCore’s Corporate VP of Marketing. “The National Demonstration Site Designation is given to parks that align with this philosophy, involve the community in planning, actively market the space, and agree to participate in future data gathering. The Clovis park has five stations along a trail, each designed to focus on one of the elements, plus an all around fitness area in the center. The intensity builds as you move forward, then declines at the end, no matter which end you start or finish your routine. The fact that it's on a trail allows residents to incorporate cardio at a level they are comfortable with. The team at MRC/GameTime along with city of Clovis representatives came up with a great and beneficial design.” Adds Magsig, “These stations give individuals who are looking to increase their fitness levels opportunities to come in and do some anaerobic and aerobic activities.”

The new National Demonstration Site is listed on the National Fitness Park locator at www.playcore.com/fitness. To receive a copy of Outdoor Fitness Parks: Best Practices for Promoting Community Health by Increasing Physical Activity, send a request to info@playcore.com.
