Government officials from the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County announced Friday that they have donated a significant plot of land on E. 3rd Street where a new community park and green space will be built in the Glenwood Park neighborhood. Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise (CNE) has partnered with PlayCore, Artech and other area organizations to turn the empty lot into a beautiful new park.

"I want to give special thanks to Mayor Ron Littlefield, Mayor Jim Coppinger, Councilman Peter Murphy, Commissioner Gregory Beck, Commissioner Warren Mackey, and Dan Johnson, Chief of Staff for donating the vacant lot, and allowing CNE to organize the Glenwood Park project," says Nick Wilkinson, Director of Development for CNE. "They recognized the opportunity to not only makeover a vacant lot, but invite a collaboration of community leaders and businesses to add more to the Glenwood neighborhood."

PlayCore provided the playground equipment and employee volunteers to help build at the park, which features a physically engaging and inviting triple-deck structure designed to encourage neighborhood children and their families to play together. With three different length slides, two climbers, and a 'bone bridge', this playground is well positioned to become a favorite community destination.

"PlayCore is dedicated to supporting the community, especially in the city where we're headquartered and our families live, work, and play." said Anne-Marie Spencer, V.P. of Corporate Marketing and Communications for PlayCore. "This park will be a wonderful addition to the Glenwood neighborhood."

Volunteers are invited to help with the construction of the park, which will take place all day Saturday, September 24. Volunteers will be able to plant flowers, spread mulch, and assist in assembling playground equipment, or just pitch-in where needed. Representatives from CNE, YPAC and participating organizations will be working to finalize the site of the future Glenwood Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Volunteers can participate for any length of time to help make the park ready for play.

"This project is a success because it has invited collaboration from many local groups, including the donation from the city and county," says Wilkinson. "Inviting volunteers from around the area provides an opportunity for people to transform a vacant lot into a brand new park, and brings Chattanooga residents together for a common goal of service to their community."

Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise strives to build and sustain livable neighborhoods by working in partnership with like-missioned organizations and encouraging neighborhood engagement. For more information about CNE or the new Glenwood Park visit www.cneinc.org.
